About Maths Olympiad

International Mathematics Olympiad is one of the prestigious examination of India. IMO works under the umbrella of Mathematics Olympiad Foundation, a society registered under the Govt. It is a 2 level exam. The first level exam is an OMR based exam where students have to appear in the test at their school. The qualified students of 1st level appear in the 2nd level and win laurels.

This is the first exam in India which is following the NEP 2020 and NCERT curriculum as well. The syllabus prescribed by the IMO is 80% NCERT and questions on Indian Mathematicians and Indian Knowledge System makes it unique in all respect. Moreover, we also strongly believe in CBQ (Competency Based Question) as prescribed by CBSE and firm believer of PISA (Programme for International Students Assessment). IKS is being endorsed by NEP 2020 so that Students can get the knowledge of Mathematics, Mathematicians in the past and their achievements to feel proud of.

 

This is the only examination in India which test a students from class 1 -12 on different parameters. The level of questions are though class appropriate but the depth and varieties of questions will make students feel different.

How To Participate

A school can enrol their students to participate in the examination. Since, the exam centre for first level is the school venue itself , we don’t allow individual participants. A school can approach us and send us the excel file with the number of students participating per class so that IMO team can make proper arrangements. 

How to Prepare for IMO Exam

For the 1st level , you can check the syllabus of your respective classes on the website. The NCERT text book will give you an idea of the syllabus. Moreover, you can go through the sample paper uploaded on our website for broader picture of what types of questions are being asked in the exam. Though there is no particular book available for this examination, but by next year we will be able to bring book for every particular classes to address the issue.

More than 5 millions students have so far participated in IMO in the last 2 years is enough to show you the popularity of IMO among students.

Prizes for Winners
  1. All successful candidate will get certificate of participation and School Level Winners will get Medals and Certificates
  2. International winners will get – The Ramanujan Award, Certificates and attractive Prizes
  3. All the participants of class 1 and 2 will be given level wise medals for encouragement.
  4. A grand award ceremony will be held at New Delhi to felicitate the International winners.

Opportunity for Teachers

To become a coordinator :- We voluntary invite school teachers to be a part of IMO team. Just write to us if you are interested to be a coordinator of IMO exam. There is no renumeration for this position but we recognize and felicitate the teachers in our Annual Program. The Olympiad Co-ordinator of the school will be awarded by the Certificate of Appreciation.

 To prepare questions :- If you think, you are a good question setter, do write to us with a sample of 20 questions on at least 5 different types of a particular class and we will invite you to work with us. You will be paid for this job.

 

We have – The Grand Ramanujan Award for mathematics teachers across India , for their outstanding performance in the field of Mathematics, based on their innovative mathematical work, research paper publication, any mathematics teaching strategies that has brought a change in the learning ability of students.

FAQ's

So far, we haven’t opened the participation of any individual. Only school can apply

We have uploaded the syllabus on our website. This is a NCERT syllabus based exam but the level of questions are totally different from NCERT text book and exemplar.

Any student from class 1 to 12 are eligible to appear in this exam.

We are conducting this exam bilingual – Hindi and English, but we are planning to conduct the examination in regional language like – Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telgu, Urdu etc in coming days provided we get a particular number of response from the school for the regional language.

For different classes, the number of questions are different. The exam in 1st level is MCQ based with – Matching, Assertion- Reason, One answer, Multiple answer, Statement based question, IKS, True/False , PISA based paragraph questions etc.
